Loosing fat in the face is one of the biggest indicators of skin aging. This causes sagging around the cheeks, the cheekbones, the nasolabial folds and the lips making the patient look older. Fat grafts fill these areas using fat extracted from other parts of the patient’s body, improving the overall appearance of the face.
Fat graft placement is performed under local or general anaesthesia. Fat from the abdominal area or thighs is harvested using liposuction, until the necessary amount is obtained. This harvested fat undergoes a special cleansing and purification process. Once the fat is ready, it is injected into the areas that are going to be treated using special cannulas and minimal incisions.
Fat grafts placement lasts 45 minutes and is performed as an outpatient surgery.
After undergoing fat graft placement the patient should remain at home for three to five days. Bruising around the treated areas is possible; however it will disappear in approximately a week. During the first two days after the surgery the patient needs to apply indirect ice packs at intervals, and after that apply warm compresses for two or three additional days. After the normal recovery period the patient will have a younger-looking appearance. Because the patient’s own body fat is used, is almost impossible to suffer from any kind of rejection. Other recommendations will be provided during the follow-up appointments, if required.
